End of season powderkeg with Scottish title at stake

Rangers and Celtic clash for the final time this season with both sides title hopes in the balance in a powderkeg fixture.

Old Firm encounters are usually seen as determining the destination of the title, but with just one point separating the pair at the top of the Scottish Premier League this Saturday s clash at Ibrox takes on added importance.

The Hoops, with a one-point advantage going into the game, know a draw could be enough to see them over the finishing line in the race for their fourth league championship in a row.

With just four games left a repeat of the 1-0 win the last time Celtic visited the home of their arch-rivals would all but clinch the title.

However, the Hoops have not fared well on their travels in 2009 with just two wins on the ro…

To be honest, I m not thinking about that now, I m really focused on the tournament, he told reporters after the win over the USA.

I try to keep performing well, keep helping the team, hopefully when we become world champion we can think about it.

Higuain hints MLS a possibility if he leaves Juventus

Gonzalo Higuain has hinted Major League Soccer could be his next destination if he is not in the plans of new Juventus coach Andrea Pirlo.

Higuain, 32, has been with Juve since 2016 when he moved from rivals Napoli and, although he enjoyed a fine first season in Turin with 32 goals across all competitions, he was less impressive the following year.

With Cristiano Ronaldo then arriving at Juve in 2018, Higuain was deemed surplus to requirements and spent the season on disappointing loan spells with Milan and then Chelsea.

Higuain was given another shot at Juve following the arrival of his former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri last year, despite him failing to impress under the Italian with Chelsea.

But a rather meagre goals tally of 11 in 43 matches does not b…

Where will Chris Smalling be plying his trade next season?

Chris Smalling s future at Manchester united is in doubt

When Chris Smalling joined Manchester United from Fulham in 2010 for an undisclosed fee, he was highly rated, despite the fact he had played just the one full campaign in the top-flight with the Cottagers.

He was a promising young defender with so much potential. Smalling enjoyed a couple of decent seasons with United and broke into the England team.

However, it seems he has now fallen out-of-favour with United boss Jose Mourinho.

The Portuguese boss spent big on Eric Bailly last summer and this summer repeated the trick with the signing of Swedish international Victor Lindelof.

The centre-back is now slipping down the pecking order at United and looks set to leave Old Trafford this summer.…

Jurgen Klopp’s men are on a seven-match winning streak in the league but their flying form will be put to a test against the club Reds beat only once in last four encounters. Liverpool’s home record against Newcastle offers plenty of promise, though, knowing t…

Inter Milan 0-1 Fiorentina: Talking points as unbelievable Viola form continues

Fiorentina are taking huge strides upwards in the Serie A at the moment. The latest victim of that magnificent run are Inter Milan, defeated at Guiseppe Meazza by a single goal, scored by Giacomo Bonaventura.

Having made 184 appearances for AC Milan before moving to Florenze in 2020, the 33-year-old midfielder will be extremely happy to have delivered such a blow to the city rivals of his former club.

The teams

Interestingly enough, Inter boss Simone Inzaghi left Lautaro Martinez on the bench at the start of the game, putting Joaquin Correa up to start alongside Romelu Lukaku in his preferred 3-5-2 setup. The rest of the lineup was pretty much expected, with goalkeeper Andre Onana starting at the backs of Alessandro Bastoni, Francesco Acerbi and Matteo Darmian in the b…

Mbappe further away from Madrid than ever, says Valdano

Kylian Mbappe is further away from Real Madrid than ever before despite slaying Barcelona, according to former Santiago Bernabeu sporting director Jorge Valdano.

Mbappe netted a stunning hat-trick as Paris Saint-Germain thrashed an overmatched Barca 4-1 in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on Tuesday.

Such a performance will undoubtedly further endear the France forward to the Madrid faithful and he has been frequently linked with a move to the Spanish capital.

The 22-year-old s contract at PSG expires at the end of next season, however Valdano believes his Camp Nou heroics have given him leverage to demand the sort of wage only the Ligue 1 giants are in a position to afford.

After this, Mbappe is further from Real Madrid than ever bef…
